There's a reason why more and more people aspire to make a living as a content creator, whether through a blog, YouTube channel, or podcast. First, because of the digital era we live in, online content is only going to continue to grow. People are spending more and more time online, on their smartphones and tablets, and children growing up in this era will consume even more online content. More eyeballs attracts more advertisers, which means more money spent on this market, and more money to be made by content creators. In other words, the pie is growing with no signs of slowing down. More importantly, this career can be incredibly fun, fulfilling, creative and flexible. You get to be your own boss; you are in charge of your brand, your business, your content strategy, your schedule, your outreach—everything. The tasks can seem endless but that's the beauty of an entrepreneurial career (because when you're a content creator, YOU are the business). You decide how hard or how smart you want to work, and you figure it out along the way.
Here are a couple tips I have for anyone hoping to become a content creator:
1) You must start with a deep passion in your topic, because you'll need the fuel to keep going even when no one's watching/listening. Also, if you're truly passionate about the topic, you'll never run out of things to learn, & you'll never run out of ideas for content.
2) Know these four letters by heart: QVCA. This stands for Quality, Value, Consistency, Authenticity. First, you must create content to the highest Quality you can possibly create. Secondly, you must bring true Value to your audience, whether you're educating, entertaining, helping, or inspiring them. Third, you must be incredibly Consistent with your upload schedule! Professionals post on a strict schedule—think of your content as a TV series, it always broadcasts on time. And lastly, you must always be your true self, your most Authentic self, in your content. This is how you connect to your audience from one human being to another; this genuine type of engagement is very important.
