The best advice I can offer a prospective designer is to learn and embrace hierarchies and critiques. Know Photoshop, Illustrator and don't be afraid of InDesign. You will need to understand Microsoft office products, because even though you don't primarily work in them...your clients do. Become really skilled in one thing, but be willing to diversify your skill set. Learn web...even if it's just basic HTML and CSS to start. Work hard, stay focused, have integrity and drink coffee. You'll do great things.
